Off Season Plans?

Most spring trapping has ended or is coming to an end real soon. What is next? The first thing on my mind after trapping season is usually what can I do differently next year. Some questions I ask myself is where I can expand my traplines, what bait and lure worked best for me, and one of the common questions I ask myself is, how many more animals can I catch next year. I am coming off of a successful trapping season for myself. I didn't trap big quantities this past season, but that wasn't my goal. My goal was to concentrate on areas over the years I have had success and try some different tactics that hopefully can be used on other locations in the future.

Spring is a good time of the year to find new trapping grounds, clear trees from trails, and clean up your traps for the new season. State trapping conventions are planned for most states by now and that presents a good opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones. You can pick up needed supplies for the upcoming trapping season and check to see what is new to the market.

The off season brings thoughts of hope and dreams for the upcoming season. At least that is how I think about. Dreaming of big catches and the best season ever. It might be safe to say these thoughts go through a trappers mind every off season in preparing for fall.

Until next time...
